Mentoring Workshop in Kentville

The Kings County Federation of Agriculture, sponsored by ThinkFarm, will host a Mentoring Workshop to bring together established farmers who are interested in the next generation of farmers and what they can do to help them.

The Workshop will take place on 22nd March at the Kentville Agricultural Centre, Cornwallis Room, from 8:30 to 12 noon. Participation is open to everyone in agriculture and there is no fee.

Established farmers and beginning/transitioning farmers are invited to the Workshop to identify the needs of KCFA’s farming community in order to develop a network of mentors and mentees.

Experienced speakers will provide tips on how to be a good mentor and a good mentee while break-out groups will allow participants to feel comfortable in mentoring situations. The Workshop will begin the process of building a community of experienced farmers willing to serve as mentors in Kings County.

Pre-registration is advised at ctheriau@gov.ns.ca or more information is available by contacting colinbell@eastlink.ca

Exploring the New Farm Dream – NEW DATES & LOCATIONS

Is starting an agricultural business right for me?

Are you interested in starting a small farm business, but unsure  where to begin?

Then this course is for you!

For career changers  looking for a new start,  farm apprentices considering a start-up, or  those simply interested in a hobby with  profit potential, Exploring the  New Farm Dream is intended to bridge the gap between ideas and action.

By providing information on what is required to start and manage a  profitable agricultural business, this course will help aspiring farmers  decide whether farming is a path they want to pursue.  A facilitator  will guide course participants through four interactive sessions  featuring panel discussions with successful farmers, government and  industry representatives, and other guest speakers.

THINKFARM will be offering this course in 2014 in Bible Hill and Antigonish on Thursday, January 9, 16, 23, and 30. [Note that for Bible Hill this is a postponement of the course advertised for November 2013.]

The course will also be offered in Kentville on Tuesday, February 4, 11, 18 and 25.
