Mentoring Workshop in Kentville

The Kings County Federation of Agriculture, sponsored by ThinkFarm, will host a Mentoring Workshop to bring together established farmers who are interested in the next generation of farmers and what they can do to help them.

The Workshop will take place on 22nd March at the Kentville Agricultural Centre, Cornwallis Room, from 8:30 to 12 noon. Participation is open to everyone in agriculture and there is no fee.

Established farmers and beginning/transitioning farmers are invited to the Workshop to identify the needs of KCFA’s farming community in order to develop a network of mentors and mentees.

Experienced speakers will provide tips on how to be a good mentor and a good mentee while break-out groups will allow participants to feel comfortable in mentoring situations. The Workshop will begin the process of building a community of experienced farmers willing to serve as mentors in Kings County.

Pre-registration is advised at ctheriau@gov.ns.ca or more information is available by contacting colinbell@eastlink.ca

Harvesting Out Potential

Get ready to dig in to our semi-annual meeting being held Friday November 29th, 2013, in Truro, at the Best Western Glengarry.

Are you a young farmer who is just trying to make it work? Wondering how other young professionals deal with the books? Maybe how they made their farm succession run so smoothly… or how they work on their farm and keep their off-farm job?

This event will focus on how young people are really making it work on their farm, from real young farmers themselves. With our panel of young entrepreneurs we’ll share their experiences, their challenges and their successes.

Also, we are looking for a board member for NSYFF. Think you might be interested? Let us know, and we’ll fill you in on what to expect. We are always looking for youth ag-leaders for various roles, so if you are interested, or has some great ideas, let’s work together in making things happen!

Once again, Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture is collaborating with us for this event and Shur-Gain is sponsoring part of our networking session.

We hope to see you there!
