Bridging the Gap 2

Remember last year…

Bridging the Gap 2012 brought together farmers from different generations, specifically, those who were ready to turn their businesses over to entering farmers, whether it is family succession or outside buyers.  It was a great success full of lots of information, things to think about and challenges identified with farm succession.  One thing I remember from last year is Farm Succession begins on the day you take over the farm, so start thinking about it now.  SAVE THE DATES of March 26 & 27th because ‘Bridging the Gap’ is back for part 2.  The agenda is shaping up to provide a ton of motivation and steps to get you on your way with effective business management and strategic planning as well as dive into some more farm family coaching.   Lots more detail to come very soon

Register Now for the Annual NSIA Curling Bonspiel

The Nova Scotia Institute of Agrologists is inviting Young Farmers to join their annual curling Bonspiel.

On Saturday, March 02, 2013, NSIA will be hosting the 8th Annual “Rollie Hayman Cup” Curling Bonspiel.

The Curling Bonspiel is being held at the Truro Curling Club where we will have five sheets available for our use. This means that we will be able to handle up to 40 curlers. Members and Non-Members are both welcome to attend.

You can reserve a spot as an individual or as a team by phoning Bob at 902-897-NSIA (6742) or by replying to this e-mail no later than Friday, February 22, 2013.

Metals will be given to the top three teams of the bonspiel and the winning team will have their names put on the Rollie Hayman Cup.

Embracing Farm Labour Challenges Workshop

Having trouble finding or retaining employees, whether full-time, seasonal, or casual? THINKFARM and the Department of Labour and Advanced Education have invited trainer Debbie Lawrence to help participants gain an understanding of and appreciation for working with those from other generations; and to identify communication strategies that will help them build bridges to one another. In addition, we will explore what motivates workers today, the dynamics of working on a family owned and operated farm, and how to really tap into the Generation Y to meet part-time labour needs.

Join us in Bible Hill on Saturday, February 23 at the Perennia Innovation Park Administration Building, Room 214, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Your $20 registration fee covers lunch. Pre-registration is required by February 18. To register, please contact Theresa at (902)893-6575 or email
